Democrat Jay Jones – son of former Del. Jerrauld C. Jones – won Norfolk’s 89th House District, the office his father once held for more than a decade, according to unofficial voting results.
With all precincts reporting, Jones had nearly 85 percent of the vote.
Jones, 28, a partner at the law firm Bischoff Martingayle, takes over for Del. Daun Hester, who ran for Norfolk Treasurer. It was Jones’ first bid for state office.
Libertarian Terry Hurst, 49, challenged Jones. The first-time candidate raised just over $4,000 to Jones’ $197,632, according to the Virginia Public Access Project.
The 89th District includes Norfolk’s Berkley, Ghent, Larchmont and Riverview neighborhoods.
